Ingredients
So versatile, so simple, and SO delicious!
- Goat cheese - Use a good quality goat cheese log. Two smaller logs or one larger log will both work!
- Fresh herbs - We used parsley, basil, chives, and thyme leaves. Make this your own and use your favorite combination of herbs or all one herb.
Wrapping Goat Cheese
The goat cheese needs to be tightly wrapped after it is rolled in the herbs. We don’t promote single use plastic, but this is one place a piece of plastic wrap is needed. After the goat cheese log is coated with the finely chopped fresh herbs, roll the herb coated log in plastic wrap. Wrap tight so the herbs stick to the cheese. Refrigerate for up to 2 days. Remove about 15 minutes before serving.
Parchment paper can be used, but we find you can get the plastic wrap tighter, which helps the herbs attach to the cheese better.
If you want to serve the goat cheese log right after rolling in the herbs, soften your cheese on the counter for 15-20 minutes before rolling in the herbs.
How to Serve Herbed Goat Cheese
This savory goat cheese log is amazing on a cheese board with fresh veggies, crackers, or baguette slices. Serve on a platter by itself with a nice cheese knife and a basket of bread and crackers.
Favorite Riffs
We used chopped fresh parsley, thyme, basil, and chives on our herb goat cheese log, but use your favorite combination of herbs. Or use just one herb! Try lemon thyme, garlic, or lemon zest. Spice it up with some paprika, red pepper flakes, cayenne, or chipotle pepper.
Time Saver Tips
We found that sometimes it took most of our time to separate the small herb leaves from the tough stems. To save time, select herbs that are easy to separate from the stems.
Saving Leftovers
The FDA recommends discarding any perishable food that has been out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
If you are within the FDA recommendations, this herb goat cheese log appetizer will last in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Leftovers are great mixed in with some hot vegetables or pasta like these Summer Vegetable Pasta or 30 Minute Chicken Caprese Pasta recipes for a creamy sauce. Break the herbed goat cheese into pieces and add to a salad like this Easy Lemon Orzo Pasta Salad or 5 Minute Lemon Arugula Salad.

Common FAQ's about Herbed Goat Cheese
We like fresh herbs for this recipe. They are lighter, brighter in both color and flavor, and milder in taste which makes a better presentation and texture. However, you can use dried herbs in a pinch, just don't use as much as their flavor is much stronger than fresh.
This is entirely up to you! We usually coat ours and then can serve it as one whole log or cut it in half (on a slant) and present it 'open' on the platter. The flavor is there already so it is just a question of how you want to present the herbed cheese.
